Inspiration comes from experiences and imagery that have left an impression throughout my life. I have always felt a deep connection to the natural world, to plants, animals and insects. You can see this reflected in my work. Living on Vancouver Island in BC, I'm in the perfect place to find magic everywhere! I have a large collection of vintage nature books and love the illustration work. Many of my pieces are vintage illustrations applied to laser cut wood. I also derive inspiration from occult imagery, which has fascinated me since I was a child. The feeling I try to portray with my work is a little ethereal forest magic with a dash of witchy folklore.
Hot Fox is a one-woman show. I make my jewelry pieces intuitively so they are all unique. I use many different materials in my work and take on new disciplines often. I don't operate as a factory, but instead as an artist. When you get one of my pieces, it's wearable art!
I work with Art Resin (non toxic) in conjunction with foraged flora and fauna. Polymer clay, which is hand-painted and sculpted. Recycled leather, hand-cut and painted. Re-purposed vintage jewelry pieces (chain, beads and pendants). Laser-cut Balsa wood printed with vintage illustrations. Recycled copper wire, which I hand-hammer and shape. Feathers collected from farms and friends. Bones foraged in my local area. Some components are new materials in my work but I source those as lead-free from a metal supplier in Turkey with high standards.
Ethical supply is very important to my work as well as recycling and breathing new life into something discarded.
I believe in strong interpersonal relationships in life and this extends to my business. I want you to feel fabulous and be happy with your experience with Hot Fox. Have an idea for a piece? Lets talk! I have done many personal commissions. I also have worked with retail locations on both a wholesale or consignment arrangement. Please don't hesitate to shoot a message with any questions. I am always happy to talk!
